Kon'nichiwa! Japan here we come.

Does anything sound more romantic than Japan at cherry blossom time? Let's do it! Let's see minimalist cutting edge design butted up against ancient tradition. Zen gardens. Hot communal baths. Sushi and sake.

Come with me to celebrate the Japanese aesthetics of wabi and sabi, to find beauty only in the imperfect, the transient, the utterly simple.

We'll visit Takyama, an old rural town in the mountains, historically priceless Kyoto, the small hot spring village of Kaga Onsen, Kanazawa and a week in bustling Tokyo.

We're doing this trip on our own and I'm wondering how to catch a train in Japan when faced with a board of Japanese script? However we manage that, you can be sure we're going to enjoy it. Together! I'm so looking forward to having you with me.

"I never travel without my diary.

One should always have something

sensational to read on the train."
